February Meetup: Keep UAS Legal in Oregon

Its my pleasure to formally announce PDXDrones’ February Meetup. The meetup will occur this Thursday, February 21st from 6pm to 8pm, with location kindly provided by Urban Airship.

This month we’ll focus on an incredibly important topic for professional and hobbyist UAV pilots alike – keeping our passion legal in Oregon!

In case you haven’t heard, two bills were recently introduced to the Oregon legislature which will immediately criminalize every consumer and hobbyist who owns a toy or model aircraft capable of capturing images of people or objects. But don’t take my word for it – read the Roswell Flight Test Crew’s very extensive analysis here. Or watch their great video below:

Fortunately we aren’t alone, and we’ll be welcoming some very special guest speakers with experience dealing with government to the meeting.

First, we’ll be hearing from Rich Hanson, Government and Regulatory Affairs representative for the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics). For maximum impact, the video experts with RFTC will record this call so the whole state may be it later on. Furthermore, we’ll be making a video petition to our own state representatives at the meeting, so take some time to think about why you support hobbyist UAVs.

Whether you’re an experienced FPV pilot, or just starting out in the UAV world, we need you to attend this meeting. If we don’t act as a group, to let our own representatives know the grave mistake they are attempting to make, then we might all become criminals.

As always, please RSVP to this even on Plancast, and this month, please bring anyone and everyone you think might want to enjoy this hobby one day. If we don’t protect it now, it might not be around for them to enjoy.

Here is Urban Airship’s location. See everyone Thursday night!
