More Flyins, More Drones

I usually leave things to the last minute, but this month I’m getting really organized and announcing the next several PDXDrone events all at once! We have awesome programming in August and September, and I hope you can all join in for some fun flying and public events.

August PDXDrones Fly-in

Our monthly fly-in is on – so come fly with us. If its your first time or your 10th, its great to see what projects our group is working on.

If you have questions about the PDX Drone challenge, please come to this meetup and ask. It’s your best opportunity to ask me in person about this awesome event.

August 15th, 6pm till dark

SE Stark and 12th, at the old high school. You can’t miss us!

August PDXDrones Weekend Edition

We had several new faces attend our weekend edition last month, so I’d like to continue this test in August. Wilsonville might have been a bit far for attendees, so I’d love to ask our members for other suggestions – places you know our flying would be welcome on a Saturday!

August 24th, 12pm – 2pm

TBD. Somewhere outside the city with plenty of open spaces. Multi-rotor and fixed wing welcome

PDX Drone Challenge Practice Day

If you plan on flying at the PDX Drone Challenge, but haven’t flown at least once at previous PDXDrones meetups this summer, please attend this meeting. I can see who registered as a pilot for the meetup, so will reach out independently to those I don’t recognize.

If you’d just like to come fly – this is a bonus meet up!

Wednesday, September 4th, 6pm – 7pm

SE Stark and 12th, at the old high school.

PDX Drone Challenge

This is the highlight of PDXDrones summer events – and I encourage and ask that you all attend as a spectator or pilot to help make it a smashing success!

We’re taking over OMSI’s front patio for a fun afternoon of building, flying and public education.

First, we’ll go from Zero to Drone in a public demonstration of machine building. We’ll show spectators how quick and fun it can be to build their own machine in an afternoon.

Next, 10 pilots will face off in a drone obstacle course that will test their piloting skill and grace under pressure. Each maneuver will be graded by judges and the winners will take home prizes! Our audience should be quite sizable as TechFestNW conference attendees and OMSI visitors will all be watching.

For more details, please see the full event description and get tickets!

Sunday, September 8th, 11am – 3pm

OMSI. We’ll have the “Drone Cage” setup right in front of OMSI’s welcome plaza, so you won’t miss it.

September PDXDrones Fly-in

September’s meetup might be the last of the year with good weather – so you’ll definitely want to make this one.

Thursday, September 19th, 5:30pm

TBD. Probably at our usual location in SE, but not finalized yet.

Was a nice evening to fly. Arrived at 5:45 pm and left around 6:45 pm. Didn’t see anyone else. Did the Fly-in get moved or cancelled? ~Rich

Hey Rich! Sorry I was called away to San Francisco at the last minute so the meetup didn’t happen. Total fail on my part to communicate. The weather looks pretty conducive to flying coming up Thursday, so I’ll try to get something organized for then. At least got some good flying in!
